This weekend, I had the pleasure of celebrating my father’s birthday with our family. We sat around and told stories that have been told before and laughed at all the right parts. As I looked around the room at everyone enjoying themselves, I couldn’t help but notice that the stories we shared were all around something that, at the time, was a stressful and/or difficult moment in our lives. But with space and time, those moments become stories that we share to connect and relate with others. Like the time I fell down a flight of stairs and landed teeth first into a wall. Good times!
I bring this up because this Thursday marks the official beginning of the holiday season. Thanksgiving is when families get together and swap stories, eat tons of food and enjoy each other’s company. Or the turkey gets burnt, your in-laws get into a huge fight, your cousin drinks a little too much wine, etc., etc. Most of these stories will become life long memories that you will share for years to come.
Instead of stressing about the imperfection of the moment, think of it as a great story in the making. Hopefully with a shift in your perspective, it will allow you to enjoy the holiday with a little less stress. Remember, that these moments are fleeting and we never get this time again. Being in the moment doesn't mean everything has to be just right, it just means that you are paying attention.
Also this weekend, I enjoyed attending the Seed Food and Wine Festival. I was over the moon with all of the activities, food and amazing people I connected with. To see a ton of photos and hear all about my adventures, click here.
I want to wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for our community and look forward to sharing and growing with you all in the future.
