Vitamin D & Memories

Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

On my recent annual physical exam my doctor informed me that I was Vitamin D deficient. It didn't come as a huge surprise because he's been telling me for years but I've been stubborn and figured that if I followed a balanced diet it would get better on its own. Well it didn't and my level fell even lower than the year before so he urged me to take a supplement and to get out in the sun more. This weekend, I took his advice and with the help of my bucket list and out of town visitors, I got my fair share of Vitamin D!

It's always fun to become a tourist in your own city when you have people to show around.  My aunt and uncle from New Jersey were visiting so we decided to take them to one of our bucket list destinations: The Venetian Pool in Coral Gables. The pool, created in 1923 out of coral rock quarry, is fed with spring water from an underground aquifer and is absolutely breathtaking.

It has an old European feel with beautiful pops of color, surrounded by huge palm trees. There are two waterfalls and a cave-like grotto which was super fun to swim in.  We all felt like we were in some remote, tropical island. Bucket list item #7- check!

On Sunday, my entire family went to Hollywood Beach to soak up more fun in the sun.  I was hoping to scratch off another bucket list item #8 {ride a tandem bike} but found a fun cycle instead.  This three wheel bike is low to the ground and requires some balance and core strength. Once we got the hang of it, we were zipping all around.

My family is from New York and grew up playing racquetball as kids.  In Hollywood Beach, there are six courts where you can play so we decided to end our day at the beach with a few games.

I tend to get caught up on the weekends with chores and responsibilities, so it felt great to try new things and be out in the sun. The bucket list is definitely helping me get out of my routine and explore.  Have you played tourist in your neighborhood lately?

This week, OM the moment for your soul and pick one thing that you've always wanted to do in your hometown and do it. Post your one thing in the comments below and let me know how it goes. Act like a tourist, take a bunch of pictures and soak up some Vitamin D!
